Aligning Green Products, Affordability Is Conference Focus

Bringing green products to the mainstream means “aligning environmental innovation with affordability,” say the organizers of Greener by Design 2009: Greener Products for Leaner Times, a conference to be held May 19-20 in San Francisco (http://www.greenerdesign.com/greenerbydesign). Designer William McDonough, founding principal of McDonough + Partners (http://www.mcdonoughpartners.com), and Tom Szaky, founder and CEO of TerraCycle, Inc. (http://www.terracycle.net), will be the keynote speakers with other speakers to be announced in the coming weeks. The conference website notes that McDonough’s Cradle to Cradle¬†design protocol helps companies assess materials and production processes from an environmental perspective. TerraCycle, which has doubled or tripled in size annually since its inception, created the world’s first product from waste (worm poop) and packaged in waste (used plastic bottles), according to the program. The conference will be held at the Palace Hotel.
