I am sure readers may find Mark Hulbert’s article – Amid The Thorns, A Potential Rose – in the Strategies column of the Sunday Money section of the November 30 edition of The New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/30/business/30stra.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=Amid%20the%20Thorns&st=cse provides a useful perspective on investing in small-cap value stocks.

Hulbert says “Investors with the fortitude to buy stocks these days may want to consider the small-cap value category.”  He goes on to say that “…historical precedents suggest that the small-cap value sector deserves serious attention.  At least over the last four decades, these stocks have tended to produce their most explosive gains right at the start of a bull market. And during declines, they have tended to lose less than the broad market averages.”
