New Rail Track in So Cal Creates New Green Freight Capability

Posted On December 1, 2008 | by AllenCaron

In a relatively quiet accomplishment, BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) has completed a third track through the Cajon Pass into and out of the Los Angeles basin, increasing by 50% the capacity of BNSF to move freight in and out of the area.  It is the first new track in the area since 1913, and far outstrips other land-freight modes in terms of energy efficiency, carbon emissions, etc.  http://www.greencarcongress.com/2008/11/bnsf-completes.html

BNSF operated its first train on the new track through Cajon Pass on November 3
